4. Mink track, registered gait

The mink is a medium sized mustelid (weasel family) with a long flexible body. These animals tend to arch their backs while running, resulting in a bounding gait, with widely separated print groups. (see also otter) The tracks on this page were all recorded on the same short stretch of river bank, over a few weeks, andwere probably made by the same animal, patrolling its territory. They are relatively small for mink, so it is probably a female.

Gaitmustelid two-track bound ? See otter track where there are distinct print groups separated by long gaps. In the mink track illustrated here there is a suggestion of long & short gaps - must take a closer look.
