Castor canadensis/fiber

Beaver


This is actually a skull of the American species (C. canadensis), but the European species (C. fiber) is very similar.

Beavers seem to have been widespread in Britain in prehistoric times, and bones have been found in Saxon deposits. They probably became extinct here around the 12th century
