Scientific Name:
Muntiacus - from the Sunda name
reevesi - after John Reeves, British naturalist in China 1812-31

A distinctive skull, with very large suborbital pits and, in the male, prominent tusks, with antler pedicles arising from long ridges. In a study of 76 males aged over 2 years, 41% were found to have broken one or both canines.
